Our View of Rigor

Rigor is the result of work that challenges students’ thinking in new and interesting ways. Rigor equals productive struggle, but not to the point of frustration. Through this productive struggle, students learn deeply.

2016-2017 CEP Goals

·     By June, 2017, all teachers will implement targeted instructional strategies that will result in a 10% increase in the aggregate number of students in grades three, four and five, scoring at levels three and four on the New York State ELA exams, as compared to the results on the 2016 ELA exams.

·     By June, 2017, all students in K-5 will complete a year's support of regularly scheduled Sanford Harmony (K-3) or Restorative Circles (4-5) programming to nurture social and emotional growth and skills.

·     By June, 2017, teachers in grades 2 through 5 will study, plan, collaborate, and implement instruction related to English as a New Language (ENL) methodologies, increasing at least one benchmark reading proficiency level for 20% of ELL students in grades 2-5, as measured by Independent Reading Levels (IRL), based on October 2016 IRL.

·     By June, 2017, school leaders will ensure that 90% of pedagogical staff participate in inquiry or data driven, Monday professional-learning cycles spanning a minimum of two months and facilitated by pedagogical staff other than coaches or administration.

·     By June, 2017, in order to facilitate increased understandings and engagement with academics at home, P. S. 182 will add fifty instructional and information clips and tutorials to our school website,, available in English, Spanish, and Bengali.
